HZCU Go-Givers Bring Good Cheer to Local Seniors
December 16, 2020: Horizon Credit Union closed for the afternoon on Tuesday, September 29 for the third annual Go. Give. Grow. company-wide community service event. At Horizon's largest community outreach event of the year, employees ventured out to bring cheer to local seniors at 25 different assisted care facilities in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon.
Together, over 300 HZCU Go-Givers made cards, hosted festive window parades and delivered gifts to seniors who have been isolated for the majority of the year due to COVID-19.

"We originally designed Go. Give. Grow. Day as a one-time event to make a big impact. But it was so popular with our team and it aligned with our values so well, we decided to make it an annual tradition"
- Jeff Adams, Horizon Credit Union CEO/President
This company-wide community service event brought employees, leaders and board members together to volunteer as a team - social-distance style.
Employees started the afternoon making thousands of hand-written cards. Some met up in branches and some made cards from home in online video meetings.
Groups then delivered cards and gifts to the care facilities and hosted festive window parades to connect with residents and bring them some good cheer.

A Touching 'Thank You'
"Thank you for sending those cards. This is the first time it's ever happened for my wife and I. It feels like somebody's standing in your corner that you don't even know. It was just so appreciated. It gave me a lot of hope and joy because I've been going through a lot of stuff physically. I just wanted to tell you that it's amazing what something like that can do. It touched my wife and I both and I don't know how to say thank you enough."

Each employee is given up to 24 hours of paid volunteer time to use during work hours each year. Many employees also volunteer outside of work hours on their own time.
